Helping children learn to read:
Evaluating the programs from Essential Skills Software in the context of current research

My sixth grade class worked on the Reading Comprehension program from Essential Skills from August 2005 to January 2006 as part of a Research Pilot. During this time my students made significant progress in their reading (see attached results).

As a teacher, I really appreciate the Marks Manager portion of all the Essential Skills programs. I have been able to use the Marks Manager to check on the progress of each student and I can also print out reports to share with parents and students.

We currently have seven site licenses from Essential Skills which form the backbone of all supplementary resources for our core language arts curriculum.

I personally would recommend the Essential Skills programs to anyone working with Kindergarten through Sixth grade because these programs can make a significant difference in students' test scores. I believe all students benefit from these programs and that other teachers will appreciate having these terrific programs that will provide measurable results for their students.
